Neues Kyoto Animation Projekt: Nijuuseiki Denki Mokuroku (20th Century Electricity Catalog) UPDATE 14.8.18

Letztes Jahr gewann Nijuuseiki Denki Mokuroku (20th Century Electricity Catalog) von Hiroshi Yūki eine „Honorable Mention“ in der Full-Length Novel Kategorie bei den 8ten Kyoto Animation Awards und heute gab es jede Menge Neuigkeiten dazu.

Zunächst wurde eine Website zur (Light?) Novel eröffnet, die schon am 10. August erscheinen soll (ISBN: 978-4-907064-88-4). Der Autor bleibt natürlich Hiroshi Yūki, Illustrationen sollen von Kazumi Ikeda (Charakterdesign bei Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!, Clannad und Kanon) sein und das „Background Art“ von Momoka Nagatani („Background Art“ bei u.a. Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!, Free!, A Silent Voice). Interessanterweise wurde auch gleich ein Anime davon angekündigt! Die Form wurde aber nicht erwähnt, soweit ich das sehe.

Man kann das Buch auch schon im Kyoani Shop vorbestellen.

Über den Inhalt kann ich aktuell nur Google Translate zu Rate ziehen: Die Handlung spielt wohl am Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts in Kyoto …

The year is 1907 and electricity is starting to spread around. The main female lead is 15 yr old Inako Momokawa, who poorly works at her father’s sake company. She goes to Fushimi Inari shrine one day and happens to meet 15 yr old Kihachi Sakamoto, who says „I don’t believe in anything I can’t see,“ refuting her sole solace: praying to the gods to help ease her difficulties. Kihachi is the son of a priest who left his shrine when he no longer believed in the gods in favor of the electricity that he saw at the 5th Domestic Industrial Fair at Osaka. When she arrives home, she discovers that her father has entered her into a sudden marriage. Believing her worth is only in marriage, she resigns herself to that fate. However, Kihachi sneaks into her house and takes her away. The only way to stop her marriage is the „Electric Catalog“ that Kihachi designed when he was younger. His older brother, Seiroku, took it with him, but he doesn’t know where Seiroku is. This begins their journey across Kyoto and Shiba prefectures to find the book to stop Inako’s marriage.

The story and characters are constructed well. The setting is also further examined in-detail. Reading about how “electricity” arrived at things we, in the present day, use was also quite entertaining. If the author further delves into the charm of this title, we feel it could be a challenging work for our company.
