Nisemonogatari Karen Bee Vol. 1 (Limited Edition) (First Look, Blu-ray, Japan)

by TMSIDR

I already collected all Bakemonogatari volumes so the sequel is a must buy for me. Nisemonogatari has a different focus but I enjoyed it as much as it predecessor. Please note that some photos shows some moire, that isn’t as visible as on the items.

There might be some changes to the broadcast episodes but I didn’t compare this so far.

Packaging:

It’s exactly the same style of packaging like before but this time the color scheme seems to be lighter. The cover image looks great and is a great continuation to the awesome images used in the first season.

Supplements:

Following Bakemonogatari one of the extras is an audio CD with the opening song of this arc: „Marshmallow Justice“ by Karen’s Seiyuu Eri Kitamura. The disc also offers the Karaoke version.

In addition to some promotional material there are also the ending cards illustrations.

Then there’s the 12-pages-booklet with an introduction, character illustrations and the opening song’s lyrics:

I can’t remember any previews in the Crunchyroll simulcast, so I was surprised that the episodes on the BD offer them (and they are also shown in the booklet).

Picture Quality / Audio Quality:

It looks better than Bakemonogatari. The colors are more vibrant and it also looks generally sharper but some gradients are still not very smooth. The outlines sometimes show some aliasing – this seems to be related to SHAFT’s drawing style. Thanks to high bitrate the transfer didn’t show any artifacts in the scenes I checked. The audio track is a normal stereo mix in lossless PCM quality.

Menu Shots:

The menus also look very similar to the ones in the original series. Like before the main menu offers a small animation in the background.

Bonus Material:

– creditless Opening (Karen)
– in-character commentary with Tsubasa Hanekawa (Yui Horie) and Hitagi Senjougahara (Chiwa Saito)
– in-character commentary with Nadeko Sengoku (Kana Hanazawa) and Tsukihi Araragi (Yuka Iguchi)

The characters comment on both episodes so that the amount of commentaries doubled compared to the Bakemonogatari discs. I still hope that somebody will start to sub these because they sound really funny.
