Fate/Zero Blu-ray Disc Box I (First Look, Blu-ray, Japan)

by TMSIDR

Nur auf English!

I ordered the Fate/Zero box from Amazon.co.jp because it was cheaper than from Rightstuf, so I got it one day after the Japanese release. This article is quite short and won’t write anything about the series itself. When I checked the episodes‘ runtimes it looks there a couple of minutes new material in comparison to the TV version, especially on the last disk.

Packaging:

The books is very stable and the material. They used a silver special color for some parts of the packaing and the use of command seals and the masters and their „illustrations“ fits perfectly. The design is simple but looks great.

Supplements:

There’s a 48 pages booklet with interviews and some illustrations and screenshots. I think that the oweners of the addional translated booklet will be able tell more about the exact contents.^^;

The other extra is first volume of the soundtrack. It offers 24 tracks with a runtime of ~47 minutes. It’s good soundtrack and some tracks are just great.

Then there’s a drama CD with a runtime of ~36 minutes. I can’t say much about the contents.

Picture Quality:

I think it looks a little bit shaper than the newer Garden of Sinners movies but the sharpness varies between scenes and shots. There’s a lot of digital grain in darker scenes but the high bitrate (~38 Mbit) handles this fine. I didn’t see any artifacts and the gradients I saw so far didn’t show any steps. I will watch the entire series probably tomorrow. If I find any problems, I will add them here.

Menu Shots:

PopUp Menu

The main menu offers a background animation and the texts are mostly in English.

Bonus Material (1080p):

Disc 1
– Textless Opening
– Textless Ending
– PV1
– PV2
– O.A. PR CMs for Servant (7)

Disc 2
– BD Box CM
– BD Box CM (for each servant)

Disc 3-5
– Special Contents 1-3 (each 10-12 minutes, animated specials with Irisviel [I’m not sure about the second person])

Unfortunately, these extras are not subtitled. I think it’s very sad that a Blu-ray box with a „Japanese price“ that is sold in USA doesn’t provide subtitles for such extras. As far as I know the extras on the Garden of Sinners Blu-rays were all subtitled.
